One thing I will always love about President Obama
I always get a little teary eyed when he talks about education. It’s wonderful to know that he, the First Lady, and Dr. Jill Biden care so much about school at all levels. Nothing makes me happier than to hear that the No Child Left Behind Act is being replaced this year.
My only complaint is that it is disappointing that he is constantly downplaying the importance of the arts in this State of the Union, regardless of the fact that his speech is about progress. Literature, art, and music may not be able to cure cancer, but I do not want to imagine a life without any of them.
The ability some members of tumblr have to latch onto something funny and bleed it dry is really amazing. Taking a hilarious show (such as Black Books) and adding “hipster pictures” that were old meme like a year ago? PLEASE JUST STOP, TUMBLR. Just stop.
“Whatever is found on land or in the sea of unknown and fearsome form of terrible bodily appearance can be called a beast. The kinds of sea-beast are almost innumerable, and with their so enormous bodies they churn up vast masses of waves as big as great mountains, and with their chests disrupt seas from the very bottom, whilst they direct their paths to the sweet river-courses and by swimming disturb the foamy depths with a great roar, and in that legion of the most enormous monsters, whilst they thrust aside the swelling sea, they lash the breezes with marbled foam, and thus with an enormous mass of limbs they sweep the stirred-up sea right up to the shore with a fearful flood so that they offer onlookers not so much a spectacle as a source of fear.”—Liber Monstrorum, from the Beowulf manuscript
For a second, please consider that Adele wrote the songs on her newest record at age twenty-one (hence the album title 21). Now which other singer is twenty-one right now? Taylor Swift of course. The difference in maturity in their lyrics is mind-blowing. One could argue it’s target demographic or simply the fact that Taylor is making an awful lot of money perpetuating childishness, but that her album was critically lauded at all is embarrassing when there are artists like Adele around.
If there was any doubt about my feelings for Beyoncé before, that Why Don't You Love Me video totally vanquishes them. Thank you for sharing - I hadn't seen that before! My next mission: track down martini glasses as big as my head, have Beyoncé over for cocktails.
Oh my gosh, I know right? I remembered seeing it linked by other people before but I never watched it until the day I posted it. That look is beautiful on her isn’t it? I’m glad you enjoyed it, too!
